Women in Business Club

Founded in 2019, Women in Business is a student-led initiative that works closely with a College of Business faculty advisor, Dr. Alexandra Dunn. Together, the group plans events to empower students and develop their skills, knowledge, and networks to succeed in their business-related careers. The program focuses on leadership development, mentoring, and fostering a supportive community among all currently enrolled UMW students. The program also discusses gender-specific challenges in the workplace, building confidence in students to navigate and excel in their careers. All UMW students are welcome to join.

What We Do:

  • Monthly Meetings: Students, faculty, and local women leaders explore topics like interview prep, negotiating, leadership, and workplace communication.
  • Campus Events: We host Women’s Week, International Women’s Day trivia, Pink Tax drives, and other events to raise awareness and foster campus engagement.
  • Skill Building: Members strengthen public speaking, practice navigating tough conversations, and lead events in a support setting.
  • Community Engagement: We connect students with Fredericksburg’s business community and create opportunities to learn from local professionals.

Get Involved:

  • Attend Events: Attend any of the various events held for the campus community to interact with club members, engage in fun activities, and gain valuable insight.
  • Become a Member: Join monthly meetings and sign up for the student email list.
  • Apply to be an Ambassador: Active members can apply at the end of each semester for leadership roles like Marketing Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and more.
  • Join the Leadership Council: After serving as an ambassador, students can take on a larger role by helping plan programs, mentoring peers, and working directly with the faculty advisor.
