Degree Programs

Officially founded on July 1, 2010, the new UMW College of Business will build on the Mary Washington tradition of a well-rounded undergraduate program in the liberal arts, with small classes that encourage direct interaction with its expert faculty. As other schools of business are just discovering the value of a solid grounding in the liberal arts for tomorrow’s leaders, our undergraduate business program has been, and will remain, firmly rooted in its liberal arts foundation. The College of Business currently offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Courses are primarily offered on the Fredericksburg campus and follow a traditional 16-week semester calendar.

The College of Business graduate programs have, from their inception, been devoted to providing a solid academic core curriculum and innovative programming designed to meet the changing needs of the next generation of business leaders in the Fredericksburg region. We intend to continue both these long standing traditions. The College of Business currently offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MSMIS), and a dual degree MBA/MSMIS.  Graduate-level courses are primarily offered in the evening on the Stafford campus and consist of 8-week, hybrid formats as well as 16-week courses.

For detailed information regarding the degree programs offered by the College of Business, please see the Academic Catalogs or program specific links provided in the table below.  New Admission criteria for the Graduate Degree Programs took effect in the Fall of 2011. A new admission policy for our Undergraduate Degree Program will begin in the Spring of 2013.

BPS Program News

Effective July 1, 2011, the Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) program will be administered by the College of Business. As of January 2011, no new students are being admitted to the Bachelor of Professional Studies program. Currently enrolled BPS students will have until the academic year 2015-16 (through the summer 2016 term) to complete the requirements for their degrees. Most of the courses in the catalog will continue to be offered to support current BPS students as they complete their degrees, although some courses may be revised, combined, or changed in other ways. Current BPS students will be kept well informed of all changes, and may always contact Janet Cropp, Assistant Dean of Advising Services, about the BPS courses or the “teach out” plan. For information please contact Ms. Janet Cropp, Assistant Dean of Advising Services, at (540) 286-8020 or (540) 286-8030 or jcropp@umw.edu.
