Since its establishment in 1989, the primary purpose of the University of Mary Washington Executive-in-Residence program has been to provide UMW students the opportunity to interact with well-known and established leaders in the corporate world and to enhance students’ knowledge of the free enterprise system. In addition, the program encourages the involvement of local business leaders in the life of the University.<\/p>\n
Business classes have been an integral part of the University of Mary Washington curriculum from the 1920\u2019s. \u00a0In fact, one of the first three graduates with a four year degree was a Commercial Arts major.\u00a0 Since then, many UMW business alumni have found success in an array of businesses, government agencies, schools and not-for-profit organizations. Some have risen through the ranks to executive positions in the U.S. and abroad, some are entrepreneurs running very successful enterprises, and some are teachers and professors.<\/p>\n
Officially founded in 2010, the College of Business continues to build upon the Mary Washington tradition of a well-rounded undergraduate program in the liberal arts, with small classes that encourage direct interaction with its expert faculty. Under the direction of Acting Dean Ken Machande, the undergraduate business program remains firmly rooted in its liberal arts foundation. Graduate programs in business provide a solid academic core curriculum and innovative programming to meet the changing needs of the next generation of business leaders in the Fredericksburg region.<\/p>\n
The Executive-in-Residence program is coordinated through the UMW College of Business and the Division of Advancement and University Relations.<\/p>\n
