Alumnus Recognized as Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisor by Forbes

Ben Maxwell began his career with Edward Jones three days after graduating from the University of Mary Washington with dual degrees in Business Administration and Economics in 2005.  Through the years he has built his career with Edward Jones and has become one of the most sought after wealth advisors in the region.  Currently, his office in Fredericksburg, VA is responsible for leading 60 Edward Jones branches throughout Northern Virginia.

With such an impressive career it is not hard to see why Forbes chose to recognize him by including him on their 2021 Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors list.  Each year Forbes develops this list by conducting an intense review of wealth advisors, which includes conducting telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and using quantitative data.

Of the wealth advisors that are selected for the list, Forbes states that “they’re seasoned, have lived through market cycles, and their deep relations with families – often representing three or more generations – position them among the best wealth management has ever seen.”

Regarding the honor, Maxwell says that it is an incredibly humbling experience that would not have been possible without his inspirational team at Edward Jones, who “go above and beyond to make an impact in our clients’ lives.”

He also credits the two internships that he had during his time at UMW with fostering his interest in pursuing a career in the financial services industry.  In addition, he also cited UMW for helping him foster an appreciation for continual learning and professional development, both of which he believes contributed to him receiving this recognition.

“So many of these interests started at UMW for me.  A number of experiences put me on this path, from professors who mentored me, to classes that shaped my knowledge base.  I’ve taken that thirst for development and applied it to my career.  To be selected to the Forbes list is confirmation that continual learning is a lifetime journey that can have significant impact.”

In addition to Forbes, Maxwell was also honored in 2019 with a Young Business Alumni award at the College of Business’ annual awards ceremony, and has been an active member of the UMW alumni community.   In his leisure time he enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with his wife, Stephanie, and two children, Austin and Natalie.
