UMW Alumna Provides Vital Support to Navy

In a recent employee spotlight by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, Jennifer Ferrell discussed her role as a financial analyst and administration specialist, as well as her experience as a UMW student.  Ms. Ferrell, who earned her B.S. in Business Administration in 2011 and MBA in 2014, both from UMW, says of her position, “I find pride in knowing that even though my role is non-technical, I can still make an impact to our warfighters by promoting more efficient financial and human resources policies and processes.”

When discussing her MBA studies, she states that is was one of the most challenging, but rewarding experiences of her life, and credits the four or more presentations per course with helping her beat her fear of public speaking.  In addition to her education, she credits her first position with NSWCDD, which was as the Financial Central Point of Contact, for providing her with the building blocks she needed to be successful and gain a greater knowledge of the financial department and its functions.

Ms. Ferrell’s passion for her job at NSWCDD is no more apparent than when asked if she had any advice for recent or soon-to-be graduates, to which she responded, “…consider a position as a civilian in the Navy.  It is a very rewarding experience to know that the work we do here ultimately supports the warfighter and helps keep our nation safe.”
