Undergraduate Scholarships

The College of Business has several academic scholarships available.  Please use the current 2014-2015 Scholarship Application Form. Deadline: February 28, 2014

AMORY SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. Preference will be given to a student who has declared Business as a major.
2. Selection of the recipient shall be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid, based on his or her judgment that special family circumstances warrant financial assistance.  Recipient’s family’s annual income shall not exceed $50,000.
3. The scholarship shall be renewable annually, provided the recipient maintains a minimum of 3.0 GPA each semester on a 4.0 grade point system, and continues to pursue a degree in Business.
4. In the event that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University shall be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
FRANCES HOLSCLAW BROWN ’44 SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. The scholarship shall be awarded annually to a student who is an entering freshman with demonstrated financial need.
2. The recipient shall be a U.S. Citizen and a native Virginian.
3. The recipient shall have plans to pursue an education in business administration or a related field.
4. Preference shall be given to students who work in food service positions on the campus of the University.
5. The scholarship shall be renewable annually, up to a maximum of four academic years, provided the recipient maintains a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, on a 4.0 grade point system.
6. The scholarship shall be awarded up the equivalent of in-state, feeds, and room expenses for a single student.
7. Selection of recipient shall be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid.
8. In the event that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University will be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
COLEMAN FAMILY FARM SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. Full-time University of Mary Washington junior majoring in mathematics, physics, chemistry
or business.
2. Special consideration shall be given to students from Virginia working farm families or from
a rural area.
3. The recipient shall be a student with demonstrated financial need and in good academic
standing, at the end of their sophomore year.
4. Documentation Required:
Federal tax return to document working farm OR
Current permanent address, i.e. drivers license (to document living location)
THE CLASS OF 1942 SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
IN MEMORY OF JAMES HARVEY DODD

Selection of Recipient:
1. The annual recipient shall be a rising junior or senior with a declared major in Business Administration.
2. The recipient shall have at least a 3.0 GPA overall and in the major,and have a record of service to the College.
3. Preference shall be given to a strong student with financial need.
4. The selection shall be handled by the Business Administration faculty and the Associate Dean for Financial Aid.
GRAMPA JOE SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
This scholarship shall be given to an accounting student who meets the following criteria:
1. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0
2. A minimum of 12 hours in accounting (to include Principles courses)
3. A minimum Accounting GPA of 3.5
4. A preferred eight or more hours of employment per week and volunteer activities.
5. Selection of recipient shall be administered by the College of Business Scholarship committee.
EVELYN HARRELL SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need.
2. The recipient shall be from the Commonwealth of Virginia or the state of North Carolina.
3. Preference shall be given to a student who is the first from her or his family to attend college.
4. Preference shall be given to a student who has a demonstrated interest in becoming an entrepreneur, with the intent of eventually creating and/or owning a business.
5. Selection of the recipient shall be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid on the recommendation of the chair of the Department of Business Administration who shall provide names of suitable candidates for the scholarship in order of preference.
6. In the event that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University shall be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
FRED E. MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a rising junior or senior who is majoring in Economics and Business Administration.
2. Selection of the recipient shall be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid in consultation with the Chairperson from the Department of Economics and the Dean of the College of Business.
3. This scholarships is renewable provided the recipient maintains a strong academic record in his or her majors and is deemed by the Department Chair and Dean to be worthy of renewal.
4. In the event that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University will be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
ROBERT C. O’NEILL SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipients:
1. This scholarship shall be awarded to undergraduate students with a declared major within the College of Business, and is renewable provided that recipients remain in good academic standing.
2. Selection of recipients shall be made by the institution’s chief academic officer and the Dean of the College of Business in consultation with the professional staff of the Office of Financial Aid.
3. In the even that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University shall be permitted to award the scholarship to the students most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
BENJAMIN T. PITTS SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. Recipients will have declared Business as their major area of study.
2. Recipients must be from the Fredericksburg area.
3. Selection will be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid upon consultation with the Dean of the College of Business.
THE HARRY SKINKER SCHOLARSHIP
Selection of Recipient:
1. This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a rising junior or senior student who is majoring in Business Administration.
2. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of two years, provided the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
3. The Associate Dean for Financial Aid shall make the selection of the recipient, in consultation with the Dean of the College of Business.
4. In the event that no applicant completely meets the above criteria, the University will be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
ROBERT J. STRASSHEIM ’96 AND SARAH D. STRASSHEIM ’01 SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS
Selection of Recipient:
This scholarship shall be given to students who have a declared major in business administration and have achieved a superior academic standing in their major.
1.  Special consideration shall be given to a student with demonstrated financial need.
2.  The scholarship shall be renewable annually, provided the recipient continues to meet selection criteria.
3.  Selection of recipients shall be administered by the Chief Academic Officer and the Dean of the College of Business in consultation with the professional staff of the Office of Financial Aid.
4.  In the event that no application completely meets the above criteria, the University shall be permitted to award the scholarship to the student most closely meeting the spirit of the criteria.
GEORGE AND MONECIA HELTON TAYLOR, ’81 SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS
Selection of Recipient:
1. The recipient must be a formally declared major in Business.
2. The recipient must be a Virginia resident at the time of the award.
3. Preference will be given to a student with financial need, as established by criteria administered by the University’s Office of Financial Aid.
4. The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis, and past recipients will be eligible for consideration for continued funding support.
5. Selection of the recipient will be made on an annual basis by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid on the basis of recommendations from the Dean of the College of Business.
WACHOVIA SCHOLARSHIP IN BUSINESS
Selection of Recipient:
1. Recipients will have declared Business as their major area of study.
2. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need.
3. Selection will be made by the Associate Dean for Financial Aid in consultation with the Dean of the College of Business.
