Dr. Henderson teaches Principles of Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Accounting Information Systems. Before joining the faculty at the University of Mary Washington, he taught various Accounting courses at the College of Charleston for four years. He has accumulated over eight years of industry experience in various roles including financial analyst, financial systems developer, and project manager. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech. He has published in the ISACA Journal, Journal of Systems and Software, Accounting Education: an International Journal, International Journal of Accounting and Information Systems, Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting, the Information Resources Management Journal, Management Accounting Quarterly, International Business Research, and the Journal of Applied Accounting Research.
Dr. Henderson has consulted for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as well as startup software firms in the Washington, D.C. area. His consulting expertise includes the following:
1) Survey-based research, including survey development, analysis and write-up.
2) Information Technology controls, including IT security and IT governance.
3) Managerial accounting issues including, budgeting, CVP analysis, relevant costing, especially as they pertain to IT consulting organizations.
4) Issues surrounding IT government contracting, including the aforementioned managerial accounting and IT topics as they relate to government contracting.
