2010-2011 Executive-in-Residence

Robert Nutting served as UMW’s Executive-in-Residence in November of 2010.  He holds numerous titles in diverse corporate entities and local and national charities. Professionally, he is chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Pirates, a major league baseball team in Pittsburgh, Pa.; president and chief executive officer of Ogden Newspapers Inc., a diversified media corporation headquartered in Wheeling, W. Va.; and president and chief executive officer of Seven Springs Mountain Resort, a family-friendly vacation destination in Seven Springs, Pa.

Nutting actively supports philanthropic endeavors both personally and professionally. He is chairman of the Pirates Charities, which offers support to more than 2,000 community organizations. He also serves on the Board of Directors at the Carnegie Natural History Museum in Pittsburgh; serves as a board member and treasurer of the Newspaper Association of America; is a former president of the West Virginia Press Association; serves as chairman of the board for The Linsly School; serves on the board of Bethany College; and is past chairman of the West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities.

His connection with the University of Mary Washington is through his mother, Betty “Snookie” Woods Nutting. She is a Mary Washington alumna and currently serves on the UMW Foundation Board.

Throughout the two-day Executive-in-Residence program, Robert Nutting interacted with UMW students and alumni at both the Fredericksburg and Stafford campuses. He also spoke to regional business leaders during a breakfast program at the University.
