Honors Night

The College of Business celebrated the success of its students during the annual Honors Night event on Tuesday, April 17 at UMW's Chandler Ballroom. The evening included student inductions into Sigma Beta Delta, a presentation of Outstanding Student Awards and an Ethical Student Award. Acting Dean Ken Machande welcomed almost 100 faculty, students and their guests to the event. Dr. Chris Garcia inducted 33 students into Sigma Beta Delta, an honor bestowed upon business students who have attained superior records in business programs in colleges with regional accreditation. Outstanding Student Awards were presented to: Patricia Lacey Metzger Memorial Award: Ethan Carter Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Caroline Mosberg Bachelor of Science in Marketing: Brian Hobbs Master of Business Administration: Kim Thornton The Ethical Student Award was presented by Mr. Chuck Bogue, president of the Rappahannock Rotary Club. Senior Reflections: Melisa Pilipovic ’17

Melisa Pilipovic is a senior accounting major. She will begin as a federal auditor with KPMG in May. How the College of Business Helped Me With only roughly two weeks left until my Undergraduate Commencement, I have been reminiscing on all of my past experiences here at Mary Washington. Many of my fondest memories revolve around the College of Business. Every semester, the College of Business hosts many different types of events to engage students, help them with networking, and to meet professionals that may be of guidance for the future. I have attended multiple events offered like Speed Networking and various Financial Seminars, but one event in particular became an event that I looked forward to attending every fall semester. Students Visit NYC During Fall Break

Lynne Richardson, dean of the College of Business, and Ken Machande, associate dean,  accompanied a group of business students on a fall break trip to New York in October. During the trip, eleven students explored the city and met with several business alums and friends of the college. Upon their arrival, the students enjoyed dinner and a city tour with Frederick Smith, financial advisor at UBS. The students also met with Adam Raiken, CFO or MetLife Stadium. They received a full tour of the stadium before returning to the city for a visit with Fitz Maro '11 at 360i. Later that day, Freddy Smith welcomed the students to the offices for UBS. The trip also included a trip to Hazel Tree to meet with CEO, Sameer Shalaby and Jim Coppola, director of institutional partnerships at the CFA Institute. October 6: Mike Stough ’86, Senior Vice President and General Auditor, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond

Join the College of Business as it welcomes alumnus Mike Stough '86, Senior Vice President and General Auditor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, to the Fredericksburg campus to speak with students on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m. in Lee Hall, Room 412. A native of Maryland, Stough joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in 2012 as general auditor. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mary Washington College and a master's degree in business/IT management from Johns Hopkins University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor and is Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls. Producing a well written resume is a basic requirement for a successful job search. The Office of Academic and Career Services is hosting a resume workshop for College of Business students on Wednesday, September 9 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Lee Hall, Room 412. Led by Academic and Career Services at UMW, this workshop will assist you in developing a resume from scratch or polishing the one you currently have. It is strongly recommended for ALL business students beginning an internship or job search process.
