The First Annual Business Alumni Awards took place Friday, October 20 in conjunction with UMW’s Homecoming Weekend. More than one hundred alumni, faculty, students, staff and friends of the College of Business attended the inaugural event. It allowed guests to reconnect while also recognizing alumni who have made exceptional contributions to their professions and are leaders in their fields.
Attendees enjoyed live music, food and bar stations prior to the awards ceremony, which was led by Acting Dean of the College of Business, Ken Machande. Machande shared many humorous, yet meaningful stories about each awardee.
ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation and Beautiful Home Services served as the event sponsors. More than 30 business students were sponsored to attend. Eleven alumni in total were honored and all were present to accept their award with the exception of Dave Carey, who sent an entertaining video acceptance speech with the theme of Carpool Karaoke. During the video, Carey sat in the passenger seat while his staff member and recent business graduate, Rachel Strong ’17, drove through the streets of NYC and asked questions about what the accolade meant to him. Carey and Strong weaved in songs between the conversation, to the enjoyment of the audience.
