Learning Journey to GEICO Headquarters

GEICO Learning JourneyThe College of Business recently took a Learning Journey to GEICO, who graciously hosted a group of forty students and faculty. Founded in 1936 by Leo Goodwin, GEICO became a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, headed by Warren Buffett, in 1996. Embarking on this journey for a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s headquarters in Fredericksburg, were students from Dr. Nichole Phillips class and the pre-business living learning community.

The group was greeted by Brittany Thompson, Regional College Recruiter for the district of Fredericksburg, and given a tour of the facility. The field trip to GEICO was very informative, giving the group an inside perspective for staying competitive in the insurance industry.

The College of Business at UMW seeks to provide business students a glimpse into the real world by engaging with local businesses. The Learning Journey provides students a chance to visit a firm which is related to what they are learning in class. The College of Business is fortunate to engage with businesses in the region willing to provide this valuable extension of the classroom.
